Getting your driving licence in Kenya follows a structured NTSA process. Here is every step, explained clearly.
Before you can legally sit behind the wheel — even for a lesson — you must hold a valid Provisional Driving Licence (PDL) issued by NTSA. This is done entirely online via the eCitizen portal.
Once your training hours are complete, apply for the driving test through eCitizen. The test is conducted by an independent NTSA examiner — not your driving school instructor.
The test has two parts — both must be passed. Combined pass mark is 70 out of 100:
Immediately after passing both parts of the NTSA driving test, you are entitled to an Interim Driving Licence. This is a temporary but fully legal document that allows you to drive on Kenyan public roads while your physical licence card is being processed.
